I met Jennifer when she was 9 months old. Her mother was my high school sweetheart. I went into the Service and we hooked up again after I returned from overseas. When the relationship rekindled we decided to marry. As my love grew for my little girl I decided that I would adopt Jennifer and give her my name. As our lives progressed through both good times and bad the marriage ended but I never regretted my decision. Although we were estranged for a number of years I am very proud today that the little girl I knew grew to be a beautiful and insightful young woman despite the many obstacles she had to overcome.
To my daughter Jennifer Molinari on her 40th Birthday "Daddy Loves You"

I went into teaching because I loved kids and I really believed I could make them enjoy a subject that I dearly loved. I believed that I could make them slightly better people than when I first met them -- but to my surprise, so many of my students bettered me. Jen was one such young lady. I remember her as a talkative, always smiling girl who was going through a much more difficult time than I had ever known. I don't ever recall knowing that she had intention of dropping out of school -- what I do know is that would have been a waste. She tells me that I played a role in her finishing high school -- I don't know about that either -- I'd like to think that her unquenchable spirit made that decision all on its own -- but whatever the reason, she did graduate and went on to become a New York City detective. Jen touches lives each and every day -- young lives, which to me is the most precious job we can have on this journey. I can't believe that Jen is turning 40!! That makes me feel quite old!, but I am very proud of all that she has accomplished, and of all the good that she will continue to do. I will leave you with a final literature and life lesson. You deserve to take full credit for all your achievements. We all may have had people who encouraged us, or those that we admired, but the final decisions we make always comes from within us. My favorite lines from the poem "Invictus" reinforces this point -- they read -- "It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments, the scroll, I am the Master of my fate, I am the Captain of my soul." Happy Birthday
Susan

In memory of a very special
mother Susan Molinari
You may not live here anymore, and I miss you, but you are always with me!
Jen, where to start?
It was about 9 years after our 8th grade graduation when you
came knocking on the door about something totally not related to us.
You were in uniform and it was 3am. But it was as if we never lost touch.
You’re truly like a ladybug. Someone who brings luck to everyone you touch.
Your friendship means the world to us. We know that wherever life takes us we will always be there for each other. Your passion for helping others is like no other. Happy Birthday! And may you always have the happiness you give others.

NYPD IDOL JAM – JANUARY 14, 2010 – JAM 40th
Jen, I am so glad to be here tonight. Most of you know Jen through work or perhaps from some of the many community activities she’s involved in, but I was lucky enough to grow up with her. Jen and my sisters were close friends ever since I can remember. And it didn’t take long for Jen to become part of my family, so much so that I consider her my sister. I wanted to give some insight into who Jennifer Molinari is. So many people live their lives burdening their souls with secrets and regrets. What I love about you Jen, is that you have no secrets. And that’s what’s so funny about it. You really are an open book. All anyone has to do is ask. So what makes her tick? Well, As a young child all odds were against her. Jen’s childhood was no Brady Bunch. You survived the challenges and handicaps of your family. And of my family. And that’s no easy task. She needed to find her own inner strength and determination to break the chains she inherited. And she had to create her own windows of opportunities. You’ve lived your life defying the odds. Who would have guessed that a little yeshiva girl from Brooklyn, the only Jewish girl in her school with an Italian last name, would one day become a Detective in the Finest Police Department in the Country. You really have been through it all – a dysfunctional family, marriage and divorce, and of course that fateful day that changed your life forever. She’s been a generous daughter and granddaughter; she’s a sister,
an Aunt,
a life long friend, and now a parent to so many children in need. And they are so lucky to have you. In her professional life, Jen is a Police Detective, a director, an accomplished song writer and now a certified life coach. And now, fortunately for us, she is married to the crusade of exposing crimes against children, being an advocate for those who are victims of crime; and spreading life-support to anyone and everyone she meets - even the guy she buys coffee from at 7-11. This is not just a 9-5 job for her; this is a life’s mission, one she takes very seriously. I believe we all have a purpose in life, and not everyone is lucky enough to discover what that purpose is. I am sure I speak on behalf of all the children whose files are on your desk, I am so glad you found your calling in life. You’ve defied the odds so skillfully and I only hope you keep doing what you’re doing. Thank you so much for all you have done for me. It’s because of you; I have traveled across the globe, have my own business, and discovered what it means by living in the moment. You have shaped my life in every way and I am grateful. The anniversary of my father’s death was yesterday and Jen, I know how much you loved my dad, and how he was there for you when you didn’t have a father. He’s here tonight, along with your mom, Bobby and your grandmother, and they are all so proud of you. Our whole family is proud of you. My sisters Jen, Amy and Fran, and my brother Stu regrettably couldn’t be here tonight, but on behalf of them and my whole family, I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday. Ira
